Support my challenge to leave MS behind!

I’m taking part in The May 50K. I will be taking on 50km throughout May and leaving my limits behind to raise funds for life-changing research into multiple sclerosis and better access to treatments!

There are over 150,000 people in the UK living with MS and I need your help to leave MS where it belongs, behind us.

You can now support this work in the UK and around the World because The May 50K supports the MS Society UK and the MS International Federation. I’ve accepted the challenge to change lives.

Please make a donation to support my challenge.

Thank you so much!

My Updates

31st May

50k in May, done!
Over the last 31 days, Mr P and I have walked many more than 50kms for the MS Society's 50k in May!!!
Team Shaw-Penman has raised awareness of MS since my diagnosis in 1999, and has raised £1000s for charities supporting MSers, but we'd never done anything like this before.
I'd wanted to do the 50k in May for years, but my MS had other ideas until now.
When we started we didn't know how it would pan out.
6 weeks ago I was having my twice yearly Ocrevus infusion and just a few weeks later I'm taking part in an international fundraiser!!!
So grateful for all the support over the month, thank you all.

This has been an amazing experience, and we are so proud to have been a part of it.
Bring on 2027!!!

18th May 2025

Well into week 3 of 50k in May for the MS Society...

3 months ago my legs decided to not play nicely (think 'sack of spuds'!) and I spent a little while on my wonderful #smartcrutches.
Today I'm at #17 in the distance rankings for the MS Society's annual international fundraiser, having achieved 187km so far!
This MSer is smashing it!!!

Why The 50k in May?

In August 1999, 7 years after my first symptom, I was diagnosed with Relapsing/Remitting Multiple Sclerosis.
MS is a neurological condition which can affect mobility, balance, coordination, vision, speech, dexterity, cognitive function, and more.

7 years ago, my MS symptoms became constant, leading to a diagnosis of Secondary Progressive MS.

Over the last 27 years, Team Shaw-Penman has raised £1000s for charities supporting MSers.

To coincide with MS Awareness Week I've decided to sign up for another fundraiser.
I'm one of the 150,000 people in the UK with MS, and this May I'll be taking part in the MS Society's 50k in May.

This means that, as usual, I'll be ignoring my limits to raise funds for life-changing research into multiple sclerosis and better access to treatments.

If you’re able to donate to my 50k challenge, I’d be so grateful for your support. Every penny helps us move closer to a future without MS.

Thank you!
