My Progress

I'm walking 50 kms this May to leave MS behind

My Progress

103 KMS

My target

50 KMS

Support my challenge to leave MS behind!

I’m taking part in The May 50K. I will be taking on 50km throughout May and leaving my limits behind to raise funds for life-changing research into multiple sclerosis and better access to treatments!

There are over 150,000 people in the UK living with MS and I need your help to leave MS where it belongs, behind us.

You can now support this work in the UK and around the World because The May 50K supports the MS Society UK and the MS International Federation. I’ve accepted the challenge to change lives.

Please make a donation to support my challenge.

Thank you so much!

My Updates

06.06.2026

Received this in the post this morning – really one for all my generous and kind sponsors. THANK YOU!
WE DID IT!

Day 31 – FINAL DAY!

I MADE IT!

I had never imagined I would raise this much which is absolutely FANTASTIC!

THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU to all who have supported me on this journey.

I really hope it will help make more progress in the research and treatment of Multiple Sclerosis in the near future.

Because of the overwhelming support I have been given I decided to double my km to 100 which I passed this morning on my final walk with my rock in life (Mike) and fundraising manager.

We found new paths locally to explore which took me to 103 km – the Bishop’s Meadow and surrounding areas.

Thank you all for your fabulous support X

Day 30

Hans Christian Andersen once wrote: 'To travel is to live'. I saw this quote in the window of a second hand bookshop in Alton along with a display of books all about walking – very fitting for the journey I'm currently on.
We decided to visit Alton today and walk to Jane Austen's House. One day we may actually go inside. But today was all about making the km and the day ended on 97 km for the month of May. Got to make it to 100 km tomorrow – so close.

Day 28

An evening walk to the other end of town to West Street Cemetery. It has been hot and clammy all day and a good thunderstorm is needed.
Today's walk makes it 81 km – not sure I will make it to 100 km before Sunday but I will try.
Been tired today after yesterday's infusion but otherwise okay.

Day 27

What better way to spend a hot day (29 degrees) than to sit in a fanned hospital department (INVAS) slowly receiving a load of medication via a drip.
Arrived at 8:30 and left at 16:00 ready for another 6 months of hopefully no new Attacks. MS is just so much fun!
Today was my first full dose on a single day. I’ve heard new drugs are being trialled which only take an hour to receive instead of about 4. This is not including the various we receive before the hardcore meds.

Meant getting public transport to and from the hospital, so another 5.1 km clocked today – now making my total so far 76 km walked in the month of May.

Day 25

Bunny evening walk – nice and cooling after a day with 30 degrees. More of the same tomorrow.

Day 23

I discovered a local nature reserve (Rowhill) online the other day which my spectacular fundraising manager (Mike) and I decided to explore this morning before the heat got too intense (27 degrees).

A lovely little spot with lots of trees to protect us from the sun and great paths for me to walk on. The River Blackwater rises in a bog near the top of this hilly site. Will definitely return again.

With today’s walk I hit 65 km – 8 more days to go – who knows how far it may take me. (:

Day 22

I've been hit again by the debilitating Fatigue – so walks have been short and on a "need" to basis in the past week. A heat wave has been announced in the coming week, which probably won’t help.

My amazing fundraising manager (Mike) and I are planning a little longer walk this Bank Holiday weekend to clock some more km in the shoes/boots, so continue watching this space and the blue sky (:

I have now reached beyond my original goal of £150 by over 10 fold and the km goal of 50 is also past – and all of this is down to all of your amazing support and generosity – THANK YOU!

May this help researchers find a cure for this shitty disease, please. I live in hope.

Day 15

Today’s walk was getting to my hospital appointment to have a review with my MS nurse. Not something which happens often, so a lot of notes to try and remember everything.

MS manifest itself differently to everyone and can affect your whole body with various strange symptoms. Some symptoms come and go and others stay.

Basically our own immune system is mistakenly attacking the protective fat which surrounds our nerve fibres in the brain and spinal cord also called myelin.

I picture it like electric wiring without any covering – so only a matter of time before a short circuit or fire occurs.

Fires being “Attacks” and short circuit when strange things happens to your body which you are not in control of.

Some days it feels like I’m holding onto an electric fence and my whole body tingle – like the dares we use to do when I was a child growing up in the countryside. Thankfully most of the time it is “only” my arms which have this sensation constantly on top of everything else. Happy days!

Only 2 km more before my target – the raised target however has blown me away! Almost 10 times my original target already.

THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU

Day 12

Another short walk today – every little helps/adds up!
Last week was unexpectedly busy, so taking it easy.
Here a still from a short film of what a tired Foot Drop sounds like.

Day 7

We have achieved a SPECTACULAR level in this challenge raising over £1000 – and that is ALL down to you guys and your tremendous generosity which has kept coming.

I’m very overwhelmed by the SPECTACULAR support you have all shown me and the cause I’m fighting for: MS and to get rid.

There are approximately 2.8 million people in the world (myself included) living with this condition – for which more research and better treatment is still needed.

THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL OF YOU helping me raise funds so we may get a better life less affected by it. THANK YOU!

A Sunday of rest turned into a Bank Holiday Monday of rest too. Fatigue and trying to work is not always an easy combo, so some extra was needed.

Since then, my walks have only been short but “Every little helps” – right?

Now that I’m more than half way on my 50K journey and it’s only May 7th – I may add another 50K, let’s see.

Today one of my stops was at the Polling Station to do my civic duty and to – STOP – certain parties from growing!

Day two

Today was a classic case of Boom & Bust when you are learning to manage fatigue. Tired and worsened dizziness.

Only managed a short walk today in the company of M. to the local garden centre – a pot needed for flower seeds kindly given to us for Christmas. (:

Captured this dramatic sky on the way home – and yes, it had water in it and we got wet.

As the last few days have been busy with travel and teaching a day of rest is needed – Sunday seems an appropriate choice.

Day one of my challenge.

After my GP appointment this morning, I got myself kitted out to start my month of counting km as I walk to raise funds for research and better treatment for MS. A chronic autoimmune disease I got diagnosed with in 2025.

I got ready with my stick (To help me walk fairly straight as my balance has been messed up by MS – I suffer for constant dizziness.)

Foot brace to help me trip less as MS has also caused ‘foot drop’ / more accurately I would call it ’slap-foot’ – which means I have lost control over the function of my left foot, which I now struggle to lift. Not a super combo but at least I can still get around with a bit of help.

As today was a beautiful sunny day here in Surrey, UK I decided to walk to Waverley Abbey not too far from home. On the way I passed a WWII pillbox in “the killing field” and Mother Ludlam’s Cave before arriving at the Abbey (dated 1128) to then head back after a nice coffee break.

I have upped my pledge to £1000 today as the generosity of all my sponsors have been absolutely AMAZING!

Thank you SO much to each and every one. I’m overwhelmed by all the support.

Getting ready – T-shirt arrived

This May I will be walking at least 50 km to raise funds for people like myself living with MS. The funds will go to MS research and better access to treatments in the UK and Worldwide, as it is supported by the MS Society UK and MS International Federation.
I will start counting my km from May 1st and hope you may wish to support my journey if you can – every little helps – as they say!

Thank you to my Sponsors
