Support my challenge to leave MS behind!

This May, Amanda and I will be taking on a personal challenge that means a great deal to us.

Amanda has recently been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). As many of you will know, MS is a complex and unpredictable condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, impacting everything from movement and balance to vision and fatigue. While we’re still coming to terms with what this means for us, we’re determined to approach it with resilience, perspective, and purpose.

The MS Society UK has teamed up with the MS International Federation for The May 50K to raise money to provide vital research, services and support for people living with MS. We’ve registered to walk and run 100km across May. This is something we can do together, at our own pace, and it gives us a clear focus during what has been a challenging period.

Alongside this, we’re hoping to raise funds to support ongoing research into MS. Progress in treatment and understanding has come a long way in recent years, but there is still much to be done. Any support—whether that’s a donation, sharing this post, or simply encouragement along the way—would genuinely mean a lot to us.

We want to be open about this, not for sympathy, but because awareness matters. MS affects over 130,000 people in the UK alone, and many are navigating it quietly. If sharing our experience helps even one more person better understand the condition, then that’s worthwhile.

We’ll be posting occasional updates throughout May as we work towards the 100km target. Some days will be easier than others, but that’s part of the point—showing up, staying consistent, and moving forward.

If you would like to support us, we’ve included a link below to our fundraising page. There’s absolutely no pressure, but every contribution goes towards vital research and support services.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and for being part of our wider support network—it doesn’t go unnoticed.

My Updates

The plot twist I didn’t see coming…

I’ve been diagnosed with MS.
Just after we got married I had a “precautionary” MRI.
Three days later and I had a call to come in first thing Monday morning where I heard the words “it looks like you have MS”
It’s been a bit of a “wait, what?” moment with a lot of tears, anger and confusion.
I  thought about just keeping it to myself, but that didn’t feel quite right. So instead, I’m doing something with it.
I’ve signed up to the May 50k challenge to raise money for MS research and support.
Partly to do something positive, partly to feel a bit less helpless… and partly because apparently walking a lot is now my personality.
If you would like to donate or share, I’d be really grateful.
Thanks
Amanda
